A BUG'S LIFE by INGA
There are movies you watch... and then there are movies you dream of watching with your grandchildren. This is one of those.
They say nobody makes films like Disney. Well, that was never more true than when Pixar came along.
Like Toy Story and Toy Story 2, A Bug's Life is all about story. Take away the dazzling visuals, and the backbone of the movie is still there... and it holds up.
ABL is based in the old "The Ant and the Cricket" moral tale; and believe me, that tale never looked so good. Characters are three dimensional, the plot is engaging and charming and the voice-casting is impeccable (and need I mention who voices the Evil [Grass]Hopper?!).
If you need a reason to watch this movie... well, I'll give you three.
1) "Do I Look--Stupid--To you?"
2) The indescribable treat of watching Hopper roll his eyes and tell us he hates when somebody gives away the ending.
3) Watching Hopper walk away fom a raging fire. If that doesn't give you a TUS flashback, I don't know what will. ;)
A Bug's Life review by ME:
I love this movie. It has very special meaning to me. It's the first Spacey movie I actually saw in a theater. And it was the first movie I watched on a movie chat at Spaceyland. Has it been a few years already? Of course, on the big screen the picture was beautiful and the animation by PIXAR was amazing. I only had one small complaint. For some reason there were several small children in the theater and when Hopper .. you know .. they cheered! Didn't they realize that if Hopper .. you know .. then Kevin Spacey wouldn't be in the sequel? I've mentioned this before, but did anyone else have a sense of deja vu towards the end when Hopper was standing with red fire burning behind him? I immediately thought of the end of Conquest of the Planet of The Apes.
There was one funny thing that happened during the movie. One of the little girls who was cheering when Hopper .. you know .. was so moved by the whole movie experience that earlier when the little ant Dot was trying to fly for help, the little girl suddenly yelled out "Fly Dot! Fly!" for everyone to hear. None of this has anything to do with the movie review itself but I don't know if I can say anything about the movie that everyone doesn't already know. The Collector's Edition DVD is a must-have for any DVD library.Kevin as Hopper 5 stars
